Age ranges

Which age group the playground is targeted at. A single playground can cover multiple age ranges.

Toddlers (0-2 years)

Toddler-friendly playgrounds with low swings featuring back support, short slides under 1 m, and soft surfaces. Typical features include sandboxes and clearly bounded areas.

When to use: Use this filter when your child is under 3 and you want to avoid tall climbing structures.

Preschool (3-5 years)

Playgrounds suited to preschool kids - regular slides, low climbing nets and standard swings without back support.

When to use: Pick this filter for outings with a kindergarten group or kids aged 3-5.

Children (6-12 years)

Larger structures with tall climbing towers, zip lines, balance challenges and parkour elements.

When to use: Used when children have outgrown preschool playgrounds and can handle more demanding play.

Teens (12+)

Playgrounds designed for teenagers - parkour courses, large climbing walls, sunken trampolines and hangouts.

Equipment

The actual play equipment available at the playground. You can select multiple equipment types at once.

Swings

Baby swings with back support, regular bench swings, basket (birds nest) swings, rope swings and tire swings.

When to use: The most popular play equipment. Use the filter when your child loves to swing.

Slides

Short toddler slides, regular 1-2.5 m slides, spiral slides and tube slides.

When to use: A standard feature on almost every playground - use the filter when slides are the main draw.

Climbing frames

climbing

Climbing towers, climbing nets, climbing walls, bouldering panels and parkour structures.

When to use: Find playgrounds focused on physical challenge and motor skills.

Sandbox

sandbox

Loose sand areas for digging, building and shaping. Often covered with netting against cats and dogs.

When to use: A cornerstone of toddler play - pick this filter when a sandbox is essential.

Water play

Hand pumps, water channels, sluices, fountains, sprinklers and shallow water-play basins.

When to use: A summer favourite. Note: water installations are typically open from 1 May to 30 September.

Trampolines

When to use: Find playgrounds with trampoline play, without the safety nets of a backyard model.

Zip line

Zip lines and aerial runways - either seat or stand-up models on a tensioned wire.

Balance beam

Balance beams, wave-shaped beams, stepping stones and full balance courses.

When to use: Motor-skill training disguised as play.

Accessibility

How accessible the playground is for wheelchair users, sensory-sensitive children and families with prams.

Wheelchair accessible

Wheelchair access to the playground itself and the central play equipment. Often includes rubberised paths and adapted equipment.

When to use: A critical filter for families with children or adults who use wheelchairs.

Sensory-friendly

Sensory zones with tactile patterns, sound panels and guided light paths - tailored for children with autism, ADHD or sensory processing differences.

When to use: Use the filter if your child is sensory-sensitive or you are looking for inclusive playgrounds.

Pram/stroller friendly

Smooth access from parking or the bike path, firm ground that does not bog down a stroller, and parking space nearby.

When to use: Practical for parents with a baby in a pram who want to roll right up to the play area.

Facilities

Amenities around the playground that make the whole outing easier - from toilets to shade.

Toilets

A public toilet within short walking distance of the playground.

When to use: Invaluable with toddlers in potty-training.

Parking

Parking options close to the playground - usually free, sometimes time-limited.

When to use: Use the filter when driving and you want to minimise walking distance.

Seating / benches

Benches or tables near the playground where adults can sit while the kids play.

When to use: Practical for long outings - avoid standing for an hour.

Shade

Natural shade from trees or sun sails covering the play equipment itself. Important in summer.

When to use: A summer essential - avoids burning-hot metal slides.

Café / kiosk

A café or kiosk within short walking distance offering drinks, snacks or ice cream.

When to use: Extends the visit when kids need a break with a juice and a snack.

Surface

The fall-safety surface under and around play equipment. The single most important safety element of any playground.

Rubber matting

Solid rubber tiles or impact-absorbing rubber surfaces. Clean, durable and accessibility-friendly.

When to use: The most modern surface - choose it for the easiest accessibility.

Sand

sand

Loose sand that absorbs falls. Must be at least 30 cm deep under tall equipment to be effective.

When to use: A classic Danish playground surface - and a fun play medium in itself.

Grass

grass

Natural grass surface. Soft falls, but can be slippery when wet.

When to use: Common at nature playgrounds in parks and forests.

Gravel

gravel

Small gravel or stone chips. Holds moisture better than sand, but offers less impact absorption.

When to use: Rare on new builds today - mostly found on older playgrounds.

Mixed

mixed

A combination of surfaces - typically rubber under tall equipment and sand or grass elsewhere.

When to use: The standard at most modern Danish playgrounds.

Setting

Where the playground is located - urban, in a park, by the beach, or in the forest.

Urban playgrounds in the middle of the city - typically on squares, in courtyards or by public transport.

When to use: Practical when you live in the city and combine playground with café or shopping.

Park

Playgrounds in green public parks, often with space for running, picnics and movement.

Beach

Beach playgrounds along the coast, lake or harbour. Often combinable with a swim.

When to use: A summer favourite - combine with a dip in the sea or a beach picnic.

Forest

Nature playgrounds in the forest - typically built from natural materials, with stumps and wooden climbing elements.

When to use: Scenic playgrounds with shade in summer and natural shelter in winter.

School

School playgrounds with public access outside school hours. Robust structures built for all ages.

When to use: Available in the afternoons, weekends and during holidays.

When to use: Most playgrounds in Denmark are free - the filter is typically used to exclude paid attractions.

Minimum rating

min_rating

Show only playgrounds with at least a given user rating, for example 4 stars or higher.

When to use: Useful for finding the best-rated playgrounds when quality matters more than proximity.

Radius

radius

Search within a given distance in kilometres from a chosen centre point (for example, your current location).

When to use: Use a 5-10 km radius for everyday outings and 20-50 km for weekend trips.

Search query

q

Free-text field that searches by name, city or address.

When to use: Type "Copenhagen" to see only playgrounds in the capital.
